Lewis Freeman
Lewis (Ludvik) Rowan Freeman was born 6 Oct 1894 and died 2 Nov 1982.  He moved from Manitoba to the Pacific Northwest with his parents and siblings in 1903. Eleven years later, Lewis was planning to marry young Bessie Marie Allen in December 1914. But when he went to the county courthouse to apply for a marriage license, he was in for a big surprise.  The Bellingham Herald had the story:

Comes to Get License But Forgets Girl
Lewis Freeman came all the way from Blaine yesterday to get a marriage license but for some reason, or other he forgot to bring his "intended."
"You'll have to bring the girl," said Deputy Auditor Sam Barrett.  Late in the afternoon he came back with the bride and the bride's papa.  That was one of the marriage licenses issued by the county auditor yesterday, and there were five others, Cupid having appeared to fare well on Christmas spirit.
Licenses were issued to Lewis Freeman and Bessie Marie Allen, of Blaine; Sigmund Folmer and Sigidur Bjornson, of Blaine; Thomas Allen and Grace Logan, of Blaine (note from Dianne Bird - Thomas Allen is Bessie Marie Allen's brother); Albert Sufgterlein, of Aberdeen, and Mary A. Kline, of Deming; Magnus Wickberg, of Everson, and Hulda Peterson, of Goshen, and William George Thompson and Ina Estelle Hightower of Sedro-Woolley.  This last couple were married by Police Judge Featherkile yesterday afternoon.
