| Jon Jonsson Freeman and
Sigurlaug Thorbergsdottir immigrated from Iceland to Canada in
1883. They departed from Akureyri and crossed the Atlantic
aboard the Craigforth.
They made the journey with their one year
old child, Kristán Eyfjorð Jónsson, who must have later died
from a childhood illness because they gave their first child
born in Canada the same name. They were married in Winnipeg in
1883.
According to Margret Benedictson's biographies published in "Almanak,"
they lived for two years in Winnipeg.
Five years later, in 1890,
they move to Argyle, Manitoba and homesteaded. They lived on
that farm until 1903 when they sold their land and belongings
and moved to the West Coast.
